Inclusive by Design: An Interactive Exhibition on
Disability and Assistive Technology

People with disabilities often face barriers that limit independence and full participation in society. I developed the idea of an interactive exhibition that promotes inclusive design and raises awareness around disability and assistive technology. I focused on creative strategy and experience design to bring the topic closer to the public in a direct, emotionally engaging way.

The project began when Dr. Robert Riener, founder of CYBATHLON, approached me to help expand the vision of this groundbreaking event. CYBATHLON is a global competition where individuals with disabilities and engineers team up to solve real-life tasks using cutting-edge technologies. I proposed creating a hands-on exhibition format that invites visitors to experience these challenges themselves.

A highlight is the “Mario Kart: Wheelchair Ergometer Edition,” where participants race using a wheelchair as the controller. It vividly illustrates the physical demands of mobility without gait or balance—and was so impactful that Nintendo licensed the adapted version for the exhibition.

The show launched at ETH Zurich and is now set to travel to Verkehrshaus and Technorama, two of Switzerland’s most renowned museums. Developed in close collaboration with individuals from the disability community, the exhibition centers on empathy, accessible innovation, and the everyday impact of human-centered design.
