Designing Sound as Object

Designing Sound as Object

My approach to vinyl design begins with the idea that a record is not just a surface, but an object. I treat each release as a spatial composition, where sleeve, disc, and material come together to form a cohesive whole. For a electronic ambient duo, I developed a cover that merged sleek 3D forms with retro-futuristic references, integrating the vinyl disc into the visual concept itself. The goal is always to move beyond decoration and create a design that feels inseparable from the music it represents.

Translating Narrative into Form

Translating Narrative into Form

Each project starts with a story. For the J-Pop/Rock band 1SHINE, I translated the theme of “taking off” into an abstract composition inspired by 1970s NASA design manuals, capturing a sense of momentum and aspiration. For their comeback single KNOCK, I shifted the language entirely, introducing a physical gesture into the sleeve, as if it had been punched through, reflecting tension, impact, and release. Across projects, I aim to turn narrative into form, where concept, material, and typography work together to communicate an idea without relying on literal imagery.

Between Culture and Atmosphere

Between Culture and Atmosphere

My visual language often draws from a wide range of cultural references: from Swiss graphic precision to surreal landscapes inspired by artists like Dalí and Moebius. In my work for the Japanese psychedelic rock band Hollow Me, I explored a more abstract, atmospheric direction, translating their sound into dreamlike compositions that feel both familiar and otherworldly. Rather than illustrating music directly, I focus on creating a visual atmosphere that resonates with it, balancing clarity with ambiguity, and structure with emotion.
